Assistance "Out in the Field"
The JSO uses Video Remote Interpreter (VRI) services to assist the deaf and hearing impaired community. If a deaf or hearing impaired citizen stops a police officer to report a crime or have a conversation, and cannot communicate, the citizen can be brought to the nearest substation (or to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Headquarters or the jail.) VRI allows immediate communication with a sign language interpreter through the computer (24 hours a day, seven days a week).
