On Saturday, October 12, 2024, Officer Bradford "Brad" McNew without hesitation intervened when he witnessed a citizen being violently assaulted at a gas station in north Jacksonville. As a result, the suspect fatally shot Officer McNew and fled the crime scene. The suspect was located and arrested in North Carolina the following day. Additional Information
McNew, a 21-year veteran of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, served as a Corrections Officer at the Montgomery Correctional Center up until the time of his death.
