Officer Turknett was shot and killed while attempting to make an arrest Kings Road and Johnson Street. Officer Turknett succumbed to his injuries approximately three hours after the incident. The suspect was wounded by the officer’s gunfire. The suspect was apprehended approximately an hour after the incident. The suspect was hanged.
He had served with the Jacksonville Police Department for 14 years and was survived by his wife and three sons.
